Our Treatment Philosophy for Adolescents

Substance abusing adolescents differ from adults in many ways. Their drug and alcohol use often stems from different causes and they have even more trouble projecting the consequences of their use into the future. They have developmental issues – they are growing up, they have different values, beliefs, and interests, and their peer influences are stronger than for most adults. Considering the special needs of teens, Red Mountain follows these principles in treatment programs:

Orientation
Red Mountain believes orienting the teenager to treatment is critical to their involvement and success. Coming into treatment can intensify feelings of fear and self-consciousness. Adolescents frequently have inaccurate information about the nature of substance use disorders and treatment programs. They may fear that they will lose freedom or that "people will get on my case." The awkwardness experienced by adolescents may be intensified at first, but for most, this subsides quickly with sensitive orientation.

Treatment Works
Our suggestions, recommendations, and shared experiences for your child are based on extensive experience and empirical research that guide clinical interventions to reduce substance use and restore positive youth development.

Innovation
Red Mountain provides enlightened, innovative approaches to recovery for young people struggling with substance abuse and other behavioral challenges. The goal is to assist each person in reaching his or her maximum potential relating to self, family, friends, school, and recovery.

Continuing Care
Our treatment programs offer a full continuum of care, from assessment, through treatment, and into extended care.

Focus on the Individual
Our programs follow individual treatment plans based on an assessment of the person’s needs, goals, life experiences, and challenges. The setting is nurturing, but firm. It provides the ideal circumstances in which individuals choosing to seek drug and alcohol rehabilitation can achieve success.

Range of Programs
Red Mountain offers programs that can help young people at whatever stage they might be – from early intervention for a young person just starting to experiment with alcohol or drugs to more structured intensive outpatient treatment for young people who are further down the path.

Parent Involvement
Red Mountain interventions are based on empirically supported outcomes, but are always made with parent and youth participation that encourage a stable family working together for recovery.
